P4LV: My Thoughts

I still can’t believe what has happened in the last 72 hours. I have been trying to figure out how I was going to write this post. This act has been heavy on my heart because you know I travel and I go to concerts, meet new people, and meet my favorite artist. I still remember the day that I found out about Christina Grimmie and how she died during her Meet and Greet with her fans. I was freaking out because I felt like I couldn’t be able to attend a concert, let alone a Meet and Greet and not feel safe ever again.
I remember the day after my JoJo Mad Love concert the next day when I was out with my new friends that I met in the hostel that in Manchester Arena bombing in the UK at Ariana Grande Dangerous Woman concert. A bomber exploded and killed about 23 people and 250 were injured. The youngest was 8 years old. Mind you OneSelfers, I just attended a concert the night before and everything was gravy. But now, with everything happening in the world such as hurricanes and earthquakes claiming lives, why another tragic event at another concert event? Which I believe is more than just a tragic event….
Roughly 60 people lost their lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and over 500 people are injured. This was at a Route 91 Harvest Festival during Jason Aldean set. People came from all over to enjoy themselves, have fun and make new friends while enjoy the artist(s) and what they do= music. That Sunday night for me at 11:30pm in Clovis, CA where I was at cleaning up lanes, looking up at the TV at a breaking new alert. When it read a shooting, I’m thinking something is happening down on the strip. Not in a million of years I would have thought it would be at that concert (which I didn’t know was going on- the harvest fest.), not again. But it gets worst….
I know people, who know people that these are their father, mother, sister, brother, friend, teacher, co-worker, etc. that lost their lives while enjoying an event of music. It’s hitting us hard in the valley right now. Five people from Bakersfield lost love ones and community held candlelight visual in honor of them. One person that was killed had a Fresno connection. Not only that but it did hit home at my Alma Mater that one of the victims was a Fresno State alumni name Kelsey Meadows. I remember her face and I believe I had a class with her when I was a History major one upon a time. When we lose a Bulldog we all come together.
I will say this will not keep us in fear. This will not make us [me] stop attending concerts. Yet, it will help us [me] be more aware of my surroundings case anything would to happen. Now there is talk about hotel security now. When will this type of terror end? My heart goes out to the families who have all been affected over the weekend including the lives that were lost. To the brave, thank you for helping, saving and being there for each other to get people to safety and to hospitals. I pray we all come together and how to address this topic on guns and not makes excuses and be better on safely and how they land in the wrong hands. Until next time OneSelfers.
