JoJo: “You Give Me Mad Love.” The Concert Review

I don’t know where to start in this review, but I can tell you that this is has been in the making for 13 years. I am so blessed that I got to be a part of one of my favorite artist show/experience. If you didn’t get the memo in the title…lawd.

I’m talking about JoJo !I’m not going to front, I was not looking my best, makeup wasn’t seriously on point and I was running late but the doors didn’t open until 6pm(I had five more minutes!). I had somewhat of time. Let’s get to the good parts.

If you don’t know, I grew up with JoJo, not in I lived next door to her and went to school… I was there when her first single dropped. I was in the car with the family and they almost changed the radio. It was kind of like the tv show The Voice, you don’t know is singing until you turned your car or better yet you needed to Google people. After that, it was history. Now fast-forward to May 21, 2017 at 6:30pm, finally making my way into the venue downstairs (my first time in The House of Blues San Diego) waiting for JoJo to come out. Now let’s get this right, I need to be cool, not an obsessed fan. These artists are real people. So, I kept my cool.

I got to talk with JoJo for 2 minutes.

I gave her two hugs. It was amazing. I told her that this was 13 years in the making to finally get to see her live and been with her since day one. I told her I drove from Fresno, CA to see her and she was impressed and ask how long the drive was. AND SHE LOVED MY JACKET! I didn’t have time to put the song titles on the “Mad Love.” letters but it worked. I even had people give me props on my jacket. I girl even took a picture of it! YES!!! I SLAY B! Mind you I was only supposed to get one picture with her and she told her people we are taking TWO! YES!!! And I also gave her my letter! Yes!

After pictures were over we got to meet her guitar player and piano guy (don’t get mad that I forgot your names. I still love you) and she did an acoustic song off the album Mad Love. called “Honest”. I do have a clip of the performance on my YouTube Channel. After that, we went right into the Q&A and she even answer my question. I should have asked who did she wanted to collate instead of the bucket list question. But it was amazing! She is so down to earth, funny, honest…damn…JOJO YOU THE MUTHAFUCKING BEST! Okay let’s get back to being professional shall we…wait, fuck apologies. HA!

The front row thing. Like I was front row before I went to get a drink and my JoJo shirt! I got the concert with all the tour dates on it for $30. If you are a JoJo fan the merchandise will be on the website after the last three dates of the tour is done (3 more reschedule dates to go). I was like first/second row. So while Stanaj wasn’t opening up for us (due to the tour originally ending on May 4th) we had two opening acts. First opening act was Brayton Bowman and he is from Philly and omg this boy can sang! Yes, he killed it. I might need to replace him with Mark (my Best Friend -_-). Check out his music when you click on his name. Now the second opening act was JoJo backup singer Keisha Renee. This girl did the damn thing. She taking people to church at the concert. She has been doing this job and sharing her gift of voice/music as a backup singer for 7 years and for JoJo to give her the opportunity to showcase her gift was such a blessing. Check out her music when you click on her name and also her music is on iTunes.

Writing post summary because I will be explaining a lot in the video up above (make sure you follow the YouTube Channel)

JoJo opened the show up with Clovers and did a two-part ending that I wasn’t expecting--AT ALL. She sang my favorite song off the Mad Love. album “Good Thing”. YES, IT WAS FIRE!!! She even took it back to her old stuff too and did some slow songs. This girl that I met got to be on stage to High Heels stripe tease. Best night of her life (I wished it was me, but I got to meet JoJo, I’m good). She even showcases her band. They killed it! Each one of them! JoJo killed it. They all killed it! She was even being real with us on stage, talking with us, dropping real stuff about her songs she wrote and everything in her life. She has help me in my life to believe in myself and so much more. Her words are inspiring. Fun fact, “Exceptional” off her second album The High Road, is one of the acronyms for my blog. It’s the first “E”. (Note: there will be a blog post coming up about each of the acronyms soon). I’m thankful I got the time off from work to see her because it did get reschedule for from Feb 24th date to May 21st and I almost didn’t go because I had the worst week ever that I didn’t want to come. One of the best feelings in the world I’m on this peaceful cloud 9. This is very different and I’m glad that I got to experience this first hand. Janet Jackson is next! Stay tune! Shoot, I might be going to another concert. You will know soon enough! Until next time #OneSelfers.
